Comes in a nice little carry bag. This is not a cheap toy!. Once you attach the stems together, this thing is solid.
The shovel can be locked in different angles. One side of the shovel has serration and the other side isn't serrated. You have tools built into the shovel itself, even a bottle cap opener.
The stems have a self locking safety mechanism for safety. It keeps everything in one place. Nothing wiggles on this. It becomes one piece.
The end cap has a window breaker and when you unscrew the end cap, a fire starter in located inside. It also comes with a screw on blade.

This survival shovel tool is definitely heavy duty and robustly built. The handle is all aluminum with milled knurling for grip and each section threads together and has a rubber o-ring seal. The handle sections have a very thoughtful design using a spring loaded locking pin that when the two pieces are fully screwed together the pin secures both sections together and prevents them from unscrewing without first depressing the pin. The knife piece can screw into the end of any of the handle pieces which means that you can change the length of the knife handle by adding or removing handle pieces. The knife has a hollow grind tanto blade shape with a 90 degree spine angle that can be used with the ferro rod as a striker. The end cap has a very pointy carbide tip for breaking glass and the whistle and ferro rod piece will screw into the center of the end cap. This shovel has two sharped sides with one side being a chisel grind straight edge and the other side having a serrated blade edge. This shovel comes with a carry bag that can fit the entire shovel when it's fully disassembled. The shovel head has 6 adjustments or positions that can go from a fully folded up position to a straight out position and there's very little play or wobble when it's locked into any of the positions. I was surprised by how well thought out this shovel is and just how well built it feels in the hand. I would 100% recommend this product.

This folding shovel is useful as a shovel, hatchet, saw and hoe. It also has a number of other "survival" gadgets that will have less utility but may come in handy in emergencies. It has a possible breaking point if used too strenuously, but folds down into a small package for storage.
This type of folding shovel is a newer version of the old Army folding shovels which had wooden handles and fairly light steel heads. They didn't fold down very small, but they were practically indestructable. These recent versions have much sturdier heads and fold down much smaller, but they tend to break at the junction between the head and the first handle section when worked too hard. This HX Outdoors shovel tries to avoid that problem by beefing up the interface between the head and the first section (see photo). It works, sort of, but I noticed enough give at that point to make me reluctant to use it for really heavy work like prying or using the ax portion of the head for anything substantial. I knocked off one star for that, but otherwise this is a useful survival tool to keep in your vehicle for emergencies.
The ax blade is sharp, and will cut small wood fairly easily. The saw blade is less useful, but may have some applications. The small knife blade doesn't seem too useful, but I didn't try it out to be sure.
The whole thing packs up very small and can be tucked away under a car seat.
Bottom line: a useful tool to carry in the car for emergencies, but don't expect it to handle really heavy work.

I have to admit I was surprised by this shovel. I was expecting more of a toy, but this is pretty solid and well thought out, save for one small thing.

The sections feature a spring loaded lock, so that once they are assembled for use, they cannot loosen accidently. This is a very nice feature to have. The is a knife that screws into the handles sections. This is where the one small thing comes to play. I wish there was a way to store the knife inside one of the sections when the shovel is disassembled. You have to remove it from the section and store it in the case. Be warned - the only gover for the knife is the cardboard sleeve it ships with.

You also get a ferro rod and a window breaker in the end cap. - like the knife, the end camp needs to be stored separate from the handle in the case when the shovel is disassembled.

The shovel has serrations and a sharpened edge.

The weight of the shovel is decent - owing to being well constructed. While I would not say it is suitable for constant heavy duty use, it is solid enough for most camping or hunting activities.

I debated between multiple similar products and went with the raptor for its stock 37in.sectional handle. Already roughly 3 in.longer than the competition its far easier on your body,with options for extension handles i grabbed 1 extra for the loose earth you dont have to chop at so much. The blade and serraded edges both super sharp in their own respect.Compression like segments opposed to threaded,they've held my initial tests for the review,its coming on a spring trek soon for highly aggressive action that im not worried about with my Raptor. Trustworthy buy for all outdoor enthusiasts.

Bought one on Amazon. Wanted a second. They showed no longer available for some reason. So, I ordered directly from China. I used my first one in the recent Virginia ice storm and it did well as an icebreaker.

This shovel has it all. It's compact, with four tubular sections that can be screwed together to extend the handle for easier shoveling. The shovel itself is a decent size, and has one serrated edge for sawing, and the other edge is sharpened for use as an ax. In addition, it includes a magnesium rod for fire starting, as well as an emergency whistle. The storage bag that's included seems sturdy and has divided pockets to store the rods and shovel. This is now with the other recovery gear in my pickup. Great gear!

I recently got the HX OUTDOORS Heavy Duty Survival Shovel to have at our beach camp. Overall, it's a solid piece of gear that mostly delivers on its promises.

First off, the shovel function is excellent. It's sturdy and handles tough digging tasks with ease. The blade is sharp and cuts through sand and soil without much trouble. However, as a pick, it doesn't perform quite as well. The design isn't as effective for breaking up hard ground, so it takes a bit more effort to get the job done.

One downside is that my shovel came with a missing knife attachment. This is a bit disappointing since that was one of the features I was looking forward to using. Despite this, the other attachments work well, and the shovel still effectively serves its primary purpose.

In summary, this survival shovel is a robust and versatile tool for most outdoor tasks at the beach camp. Just keep in mind that it might not excel as a pick and check to make sure all the attachments are included when you receive it.

This shovel handle is broken down into several pieces which screw into each other. This makes for a compact but generally weaker handle. It's good for emergency use, but I wouldn't want to count on it for day to day usage.

Good quality of parts that did arrive. Missing knife attachment that is supposed to be included. Indicates a lack of quality control during packaging from manufacturer.

This is an excellent tactical / survival shovel. I have it, and the mini HX version on every camping trip. I camp everyday. It would probably survive being run over by anything except a freight-train. This shovel has the most useful tools included and I love the locking handle for extended work time. The carry case is Well designed to separate the parts inside from clinking and marring each other. It's heavy, so I need both, this and the mini HX (ASIN: B0D1ZSMHGS)

I got this for my 4X4 and I couldn't be happier. It is super strong and goes together easily. It can easily dig you out from the stuck mud and sand. The knife is scary sharp and really nice to have. It does have a bunch of other survival functions like a firestarter, rope cutter, and even bottle opener. Also the edge of the shovel is sharp enough to cut small logs. This is a great addition to any surivial kit and I really like it.

This is a good tool to have in a car or truck, but it is too heavy to take hiking. The built appears to be very solid and, after a couple of bandaids, I can personally attest that the blade is very sharp indeed. Overall it is easy to set up and the lock-clicks prevent accidental closures. The blade is quite usable in emergencies, although it would be a bit small (and you shouldn't need that) for everyday use.

I have a lot of HX outdoors and have come to love them as a brand. This multitool shovel is another win from them. Great quality and very easy to use. Instructions were clear and all the parts are machined well. Very impressed for the $53 price tag. I know a lot of comparable quality multitool shovels that go for way more!

This survival shovel is sweet. Comes disassembled in a cool carrying case. Three handle attachment extensions. Folds down and fits right in the pouch, with sling. One sharp edge and one sarated. I'd feel bad for any zombie... perfect for bug out or emergency bag.

This is as-advertised. It's versatile, easy-to-assemble, and sturdy. The case is nice, and besides the shovel head, it comes with a separate blade attachment.

This tool is a good value, and I look forward to adding it to my camping kit.

Be sure to read the instructions when you get this, and be careful when reaching in the bag to pull out the accessories. The knife was covered only by a loose piece of cardboard. I had no idea this was as functional as it is! If you don't read the accompanying instructions, you may miss a few things. It is very easy to put together, and is made of very strong materials. The bag that it comes in has compartments inside so that when you break the shovel down for storage or travel, each part has its own place. The side of the shovel appears to have a slight saw blade to it which is amazing. I believe that if this is the only tool you have on a hiking trip, you pretty much have everything you need in just this one shovel. It is beyond belief, and is the swiss army of shovels!

This survival/tactical shovel is well designed, but heavy. So it's not going to be your choice for backpacking!
That having been said, it's great around my yard & in the woods. I've tried about everything the pictures on their page depicts, except the flint-fire starter. Durring the summer season I'll saved that for what's legally allowed or fall. It cleans up okay & fits in its case when taken apart. Place for everything.
One will have to be extremely careful in using this as it has some very sharp blades for what appears to be a shovel. Not for the kids to play with, but I'd let them use it with me around.
Overall, good thought went into it & I'm glad I got it!

I ordered this because I really wanted a travel shovel for camping, this ended up being so much more than just a shovel. It has so many extra features that are useful like a hoe, saw, axe, hook, hook cutter, whistle, knife, fire starter, bottle opener, hex wrench, nail puller and glass breaker. The shovel is very sturdy and durable. I haven't used it for a camping trip yet, but have found it useful around the house for various things. I've started keeping it in my car because it works as a glass breaker and you never know when you might need a shovel or any of the other tools this can be used as.

What I really needed was a portable shovel -- something that I can keep in the car for camping or in case I need to dig out of snow or handle getting stuck otherwise. This thing can handle that and so much more. I dindn't quite know what a "survival tactical shovel" would be, but the "tactical" part probably refers to the shovel being well constructed and feels sturdy. As a shovel, it has a nicely-proportioned handle that assembles easily and stays together. The toggle for the head of the shovel is easy to use and enables setting the angle of the blade in several increments to 90 degrees (effectively a hoe) while maintaining a solid feel.

In addition to the shovel aspect, this thing has some unexpected features like a hole that can be used for pulling nails out and another that can be used as a hex wrench. One edge of the shovel is serrated so that it can be used as a saw and the other has a bit of an edge to it so it is sort of a "blade," though not a knife edge. There is also a bottle opener and a "hook cutter" that can be used to cut cordage. I don't know that I would use all of these on a regular basis, and I don't see myself carrying a "tactical shovel" with me on a plane, but if my plane went down, I'd sure appreciate some of these tools.

Two additional and somewhat related items are the glass breaker (basically a hardened point on the opposite end of the shovel handle from the blade) and the knife. I am not sure when I would need the glass breaker unless I came upon a motorist in a flaming vehicle since I will likely keep this in the trunk and be unable to access it easily for myself if, say, my vehicle were submerged and I needed to break my way out. But, moving on... unscrewing the glass breaker from the handle reveals a firestarter rod that can be used in the standard way with the knife blade to create sparks and produce fire. The knife is no joke either. It is SHARP, 4" long and pointed (sort of like a Tanto blade). You can attach the knife blade to one of the handle sections for leverage or onto the fully-assembled handle to create a spear.

The tool feels good in my hands and the functions I have tried have worked as advertised, though I wouldn't recommend the saw for anything more than a survival situation and I feel more like the "blade" on the opposite edge of the shovel is more like a dull axe than anything.

It disassembles and the parts fit into an included fabric pouch with velcro-type closures and a shoulder strap. Don't get too excited. The pouch did not get anywhere near the attention that the shovel did and feels more like an afterthought: it is thin and the strap is probably not anything that I would ever use, especially since I plan to mostly keep this in my car.

For my use case, it fits the bill just fine and provides some extra bonus tools that could come in handy. I'd probably do 4 1/2 stars due to the weakness of the pouch, but since that doesn't really matter for me, I'll round it to 5.

This is a very heavy duty and incredibly compact piece of equipment, and I am very happy to own it! The shovel itself is strong and multi-functional as one side has a VERY sharp saw, and the other side has an equally sharp axe blade. There is also a knife/spear-head attachment that screws into the handles. Let's not forget to mention the whistle--oh my gosh! I nearly blew out my eardrums just testing the dang thing! But as a survival tool, that's a good thing. Very happy!
