The blade is made of 5Cr15MoV steel, which is typically used for kitchen knives and other soft-cutting situations (such as for fishing). That said, it's honestly not the best option for EDC or hunting knives simply because it's a softer metal. That means it's easy to sharpen, but also quicker to become dull. For instance, I tested the blade by pushing it into wood and then performed the paper slicing test. Not only did it fail to easily slice the paper afterward, but it tore rather than cut. The metal is, however, corrosion-resistant. It can endure low to mid-toughness work, but the lack of hardness and edge retention limits its usefulness.

That said, for the price level, it's a good entry-level knife. I would use it for a weekend of camping, but not on an island where I had to survive for weeks. It's good for short-term use where resharpening is required.

I like the handle grip. There's a hardened rubbery-like material, with hexagon shapes for the texturing. It fits my hand well and doesn't easily slide out, even when wet.

The sheath is of decent quality. It's a hard plastic that can hang from a belt or be strung on a backpack. (It will flop on the belt if a second strap isn't used.) The knife snugly seats into the sheath, but only snaps into place in one direction. If properly sheathed, the knife holds even when tipped upside down.

Overall, I would say you get a decent starter knife for the price. Good for teens learning to camp or fish. Best avoided for hunting and more rigorous activities.

This is a good all around knife for my new Boy Scout. Not too large, not cheaply made, not overpriced, and has a decent sheath. He's had a smaller pocket knife for years and now that he's progressing in outdoor skill set, it's time to upgrade. He needed a larger, durable survival knife to strap to his gear and have at the ready for hunting and bushcraft. The size is perfect in both blade and handle. The steel is impressive and I like the rubber handle to ensure a sure grip. So the knife is solid but the sheath does have a small flaw. There's a small tear at one of the buttons. I attached a pic of this. It's not a terrible flaw but I don't anticipate this strap holding up over time. After repeated use of this button no doubt it will separate. Other than that, He's so excited to have it and I expect the knife itself to last him for years to come.

I like doing outdoor activities, e.g., camping, hiking, canoeing/kayaking etc. I have several types of knives, but this one caught my eye because of its size, versatility, and price ($9.99 at the time of this review).

Things I like about the knife & sheath:

- I'm a woman with smaller hands and I'm able to comfortably grip this knife's handle and use the knife
with confidence.
- The material on the handle (feels like a firm rubber) doesn't slip easily, even when wet.
- The size allows me to easily carry this on my belt, or in my backpack.
- The sheath feels durable enough for my needs and allows for different configurations for carrying. It's
made of rigid plastic, which works for me especially when it's raining or I'm doing water activities. I have
other knives with sheaths made of nylon or leather, and it's a pain when they get wet.

Things that could be better:

- I agree with the other reviews that the blade was not as sharp as you might expect, especially since it's
advertised a 'sharp knife.'
- While the knife technically clicks into place in the sheath, if you jostle it hard enough when it's upside
down, it will come out of the sheath. Luckily, the nylon strap on the sheath stopped the blade from
completely coming out.
- The sheath separates so you can wear it on your belt vertically, or horizontally. Unfortunately, there are
no directions indicating the sheath does this, or how to do it (I discovered this through a video online).
Also, once you take it apart, it can be temperamental when putting it back together.

Overall, I think this knife is worth getting.

Surprisingly decent knife given it's price point. Like you, I have knives that cost multiples of this one's. But it is nice to have a knife that you can use/abuse with a clear conscience. The knife has a solid spine but needed some attention to get to the level of sharpness I prefer. The handle has a nice grip texture. The sheath and retainer strap seem strong enough.

My son and I are part of a scouting-type organization. I wanted to get him a fixed blade knife to go along with his folding pocket knife to give him options for our outings. I got this one from HX Outdoors.

I'm impressed with this, especially given its price. It has a nice feel to it and has a good multi-mount sheath to go with it. The handle is comfortable.

My son is very small for a 12-year-old and feels comfortable and confident with this knife. He won't use it a lot, but I think it will be a good option for him when he does need it.

I love this thick bladed bushcraft knife and the handle is very comfortable and easy to hold on to. The knife is exceedingly sharp on arrival and has a thick blade I can split kindling with. My issue with this knife is that the belt sheath is strangely designed and it is not comfortable to wear on your belt because it moves around too much. When you want to draw the knife you need one hand on the sheath and one on the knife handle. I wish there were some way to attach it to my tactical belt but I have not found one. I will have to get a better sheath before I will take this in the woods again. The sheath makes the knife very cumbersome to use and carry. If it had some leg straps with it that would solve the flopping around of the knife and the difficult two handed draw. A superior knife but a sheath that makes the knife hard to use and carry. I cannot hook this to my Molle system backpack either.

This is a great knife for the price point. It's not the sharpest in the world, but I'll work on that. ;-)

The straight handle was surprisingly comfortable to hold.

The sheath was well designed. It has a button down strap to hold it in place, but even without it, the knife stays in place securely.

The full tang blade seems pretty tough. I'm no knife expert, so I have no idea if this steel is a strong one or not, but I think for my purposes, it will definitely suffice.

Check out the picture of the instructions/disclaimers on the back of the box. It says that you shouldn't use this knife for 'unintended purposes'. LOL I thought that was funny!

Anyway, very satisfied with this knife and I recommend it for your go-bag or bug-out bag.

The knife has a nice solid feel to it.

The blade could be sharper but a few passes on a sharpening stone should clear that up. It cuts just not as smoothly as I would have liked.

The sheath is an improvement over some earlier designs from this brand that were entirely hard plastic. Although in my opinion there is still too much plastic and corners to catch on things or get dirty.
The belt loop works well with a snap to easily put it on or off.

For the price, it's a decent little knife.

The blade on this knife is a really nice and comfortable shape, and it has 5cr13 printed on the blade. Having no way to verify that, we will have to take their word for it, but it looks like an ok blade.
The handle is comfortable to hold and not slippery despite being plastic. This is thanks to the nice stippling pattern on it.
The sheath is very versatile, can be attached many ways both vertically and horizontally to a belt, pack or anything else. The sheath is the thing I like the best about this knife, but that brings me to its only drawback -the retention strap. Since the handle is almost the same shape throughout its length, the strap has nothing to grab the knife by, so it just slips out if you mount it upside down. Don't do it.
If you look at my last picture, you will see that the knife is in fact full tang, and that the injection molded handle is a little rough around the edges.
I really want to like this knife, and the looks are attractive, but for the same price or nearly that you can get a Mora which has none of these drawbacks in terms of build quality or sheath retention and a better grade of steel to boot.

I already have a different version survival knife from HX Outdoors that I keep in my wife's vehicle, and I wanted another knife to keep in my vehicle that I wasn't too expensive so that if it was stolen out of my vehicle, it wouldn't leave me crying all the way to the bank. This full tang version is great for the price, just realize that this really is a budget knife, and you are sacrificing a lot of essential features for a true survival knife at this price point.

This is more than durable enough for my intended purpose. The 5CR15MoV Steel is hard enough to be put through its paces, is has a high degree of rust resistance, and has a good compromise in holding its edge without being difficult to sharpen or to get an edge that is razor-sharp. Just recognize that this will need frequent sharpening as it will not hold its edge for all that long.

The rubberized handle has a bit of texturing, and it gives my hands good purchase. Although it fits my average sized hand Ok, if you have larger hands, you may find the handle to be on the small side. The blade shape is ideal for a bushcraft style of knife and is reminiscent of my higher-end Becker BK22 knife, albeit smaller and thinner. I did a lot of feathering on both soft live wood and hard dead wood, and the knife held its edge well, and created very nice slivers.

I consider this a light-duty bushcraft blade for only occasional use because of the smaller size and how thin the blade is. The entire knife is just over 10-inches long but only 1-inch wide at the thickest point on the handle, and the handle is only 0.5-inches thick. The blade is around 3.75-inches long and only 3mm thick on the spine. So that you have an idea of how lightweight this knife is, it is only 5-ounces without the sheath, but it is well balanced.

The spine of the blade and the handle do not have any gimping. There is no choil to use as a finger groove or to help find a place to start sharpening. I did some batoning to see if I could deform the edge and it held up quite well, but because of the size and thickness f the blade, it really only works for small pieces of wood. I was able to split some 1-2-inch diameter pieces of seasoned oak branches, but I wouldn't try it on anything larger. I tested the durability of the blade's tip, chipping and prying away on seasoned dead hardwood, seeing if I could bend or break it, but fortunately the tip was unscathed during my testing.

The sheath on this model is just made of a thermomoulded plastic with a nylon loop. It works fine, but to properly attach it to my 1.5-inch EDC belt I have to mount it horizontally; to mount it vertically you need to use the nylon loop at the top, and then it bounces around a lot. The retention is not great and as you walk, it clanks around a lot. You must keep the nylon retention loop snapped to ensure the knife does not fall out. The only saving grace about the sheath is that you need not worry about which way the blade is facing when you insert it into the sheath.

Good for camping or hunting. The sheath seems solid and attached to your backpack, can be worn on your belt alone or can be strapped to your leg, if you feel the need.

At this price point, this is a very nice knife!
The blade is sharp, but not razor sharp.
It doesn't clip into the sheath as well as it might, so the blade moves around in there a little. But it's really not too bad and holds it well enough.
The handle material is comfortable and the overall weight and feel of the knife is great!
All in all, this a great little camping knife.

Quick summary: Sharp, comfortable to use, good sheath - inexpensive but quality!

The HX Outdoors Bushcraft knife is an inexpensive but quality bushcraft knife. It arrived in a nice box and was usable sharp. I did do the paper cut test, created sparks with a ferro rod and made a few feather sticks etc. The knife fits my hands well. The handle material is a soft plastic. It has good grip and will work when wet. The size is just about right for bushcraft.

Pros:
- Price. This knife is very inexpensive.
- Sharp, back of the blade does produce sparks with a ferro rod.
- Usable sheath that allows multiple carry options

Cons:
- Sheath has a tactical look and feel and is longer than needed
- Spine of the blade could be a bit sharper and create better sparks

Sheath is a matter of taste. I have to award a full 5 stars.

I found that this knife just plain feels great in my hand. It has a good weight and is nicely balanced. I like the TPR handle which is textured for a solid grip while still being comfortable. This knife is also a full tang design. The blade is labeled as 5Cr15 steel which gives it good corrosion resistance and is easy to sharpen. The knife sheath is actually very good and fits the knife perfectly and positively locks it in place. The outer molle attachment can be removed by pinching and pulling the plastic attachment strip located just under the hilt on the back side of the sheath. This streamlines the sheath for strapping to a belt. Overall, I think this knife constitutes an outstanding value and I am happy to have it in my collection.

This is a very practical size and perfect to take camping, hiking, hunting...etc. It looks and feels very well made and is full tang for strength and simplicity in design. The handle has a good grip texture and size (at least for my men's medium sized hands). Mine came nicely sharpened with a nice even edge grind to it. The sheath is a modern looking "kydex" type that holds the knife firmly. The price is hard to believe for what you get and absolutely worth it.

I couldn't be too harsh on this knife at this price point.

The Good: I love the weight, it has some heft to it. It's well balanced. The molded handle was nicer than expected. It does have a decent softness too it, but not too soft that the material would start peeling away if you used it a lot, but not too hard that it feels like plastic. The texture isn't bad in regards to grip either.

The blade came relatively sharp. Drop points are my favorite design so I do like the overall appearance of the knife end to end. The 5CR steel is decent but I don't expect it to hold an edge for too long, but then again I'm kind of a freak with my knives and sharpen them often regardless of the steel grade.

The Bad: Throw the sheath in the garbage and tell your knife to seek shelter elsewhere.
There is very little retention with the knife I received. Most knives with this type sheath you'll hear a confidence inspiring little click once the knife is seated. I kind of heard a click, and kind of felt like I was pushing it in correctly, but after turning the sheath upside down and giving it a decent shake, the knife fell right out. I tried this repeatedly. That is no bueno for me. If you closely inspect the sheath where it should grab onto the knife handle, you'll see where the problem lies.

For the money, this set up isn't horrible. I really can't knock it too bad, but won't be carrying this until I can find a different sheath for it. Maybe I'll just buy some Kydex sheets and mold my own.

This is a nice knife and sheath. The blade is made of good quality 5CR15 MOV stainless steel and the handle is made of good quality material with a non slip surface. It feels good in the hand when holding it. The only problem I have is that the knife is not very sharp. I'll definitely need to put an edge on it before taking it out on a camping trip. It's odd to me that the product description actually states its an "Extra Sharp Camping Knife". I did read some of the other reviews that said the knife would easily fall out of the sheath if you tapped on it. That is not the case with the knife I received. I tried to make it fall out by tapping pretty hard and it did not fall out. Other than the dull blade which you can easily remedy, I think this is good value for the money.

At this price I can't really have any complaints so I'm just giving out observations. At 10 bucks it's a steal so don't hesitate to pick it up if you're on the fence.

The knife has a great feeling heft to it. It's a full tang. The blade was stonewashed or media tumbled and the grind is nice and sharp. It's a softer steel so it was probably dull quickly but sharpen easily. I haven't had ti sharpen it yet, it's just been cutting up cardboard and opening packages so far.

The handle is durable though I would have preferred it to be a little softer. It's a hard rubber, not plastic. It's on the smaller side for grip so if you like a really thick handle you might find this lacking.

The sheath is excellent given its price point BUT it misses by a slight margin. It's not quite firm enough to hold the knife on its own. I can't quite trust it will stay. I'd love to get rid of the nylon clips and they are designed to be removed with ease which is a nice touch so I'm going to take a heat gun to it to try to bend the locking tab tighter. I might need to jam something inside the sheath like a small strip of leather or rubber to keep it from rocking.

Overall, exceeds its price point and I'd recommend it. Pleasantly surprised by this one, easy 5 stars.
